SAINT ANDREW'S ABBEY, Valyermo: its Founders and Place in the Great Stream of Benedictine History
Friday, June 12 - Sunday, June 14, 2020

In this Zoom workshop the story of St. Andrew's Abbey, Valyermo, will be traced against the larger background of the history of Benedictine monasticism. Particular emphasis will be placed on the resurgence of Benedictine life following the French Revolution, the creation of the Congregation of the Annunciation to which Valyermo belongs, and the growth of the monastic community of St. Andrew's from its foundation in China to its present flourishing in the High Desert of Southern California. Links will be provided to a workshop website containing all texts and images that will be presented, as well as a bibliography containing recommended texts for further study.

Fr. Luke Dysinger has been a monk of Valyermo since 1976. He is a priest and a physician who writes and teaches in the fields of mystical theology and biomedical ethics. He received a D.Phil. in patristics at Oxford University and is professor of church history and moral theology at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, CA.
